My second shoot with my new outdoor flashheads was with Annemiek, at de Blauwe Kamer. It was technically reasonably challenging to get a nice mix between ambient (sun/sky) and flash light. I like the effect this gives with the harsh light in combination with the sun setting.

Here, Renate is lying down in a warm environment. It looks idyllic, however it was around 8.30pm, it was 14 degrees, there was no roof and the place was dusty. πŸ™‚ The apparent sunlight was really a flashlight, and actually the other flashlight coming from the back of her misfired. However, I found it just as sweet, given some corrections for the missing amount of light. Sorry for taking away the romantic side with the description, it’s the end result that has a gentle warm relaxing feel fortunately.

A few weeks ago I followed a workshop from Mark de Roo about lighting on location. It was inspiring, so I read about several types of flash heads and finally decided on a relatively low-cost Jinbei Discovery series.

Last Friday I went out with Renate to have a good at my first real location shoot with flashes. It was around 8pm, this floor actually had no roof anymore, but the ambient light is powered away by the flashes. One DC-1200Β from the rear at low power.

Renate was eating dust almost literally, kudos to her for withstanding it to make this picture a reality. πŸ™‚

Another one from Kelly. This time I tried some lens blur, masked out to keep the face in focus. Added some gradient adjustment layer to get a warmer look. Raw photographs from the camera are only half of the product. πŸ˜‰

Here is one in mostly high-key of Chanelle. I made the shadows slightly softer here and there for a more ethereal feel. Love the legs.

From a longer time ago, this is the beautiful Chanelle, relaxing after the yoga exercises I had to put her through during the shoot. πŸ™‚

Kelly sitting in front of my wall. My studio really has 2 spots where I can take my pictures; a side where I have my paper backgrounds (where I mostly just use either black or white; white becomes gray if you take care of your lighting).

The other side is the wall (my Pinterest account has a special section dedicated to it). It’s white, has a corner and is perfect for sitting photos like this. I want to add some kind of boarded section though to create a real corner, that would give some more options.

I like the action here, something is happening, she’s putting on (or taking off?) her shoes. The slant is not subtle, but I like it this way.
