Natural Light

A new shoot with Marion; this time I wanted to throw some things overboard and try some more loose photography. Just showing some background, studio stuff, homely things. And also some natural light (for the most part).

This one was shot in front of a window facing north. I love the softness of the light; better than any softbox I’ve encountered (due to the larger size of the light source of course, but still).

Here’s another one from a recent shoot with Marion.

One thing I did notice is the synchronization with the Linkstar LF-250 being 99% perfect; there is a small darkening at the bottom of the image, which is due to me using Yongnuo high-speed sync radio triggers, which almost work with the Linkstar, but not for the full 100%. I should test it with the Linkstar LF-400 to see if that works any better.

But if doesn’t really make the image any less. 😉

This shot was taken using a 90x60cm softbox on the left, and a small spotlight at the right rear of the model. Post-processing was done using Nik Analog Efex Pro.

This is Marion, who came by my studio almost a week ago. We used mostly a simple square softbox, and a gridded flashhead for the hair now and then.

This is one of my favorite pictures of her.

These are a few of my favorite things. Next to hair blowing in the windmachine, almost destroying the studio paper that is. 😉

Another one from the shoot with Annemiek and Else. We did a lot of hairflips in this shoot, and although it’s a bit of hit & miss, a lot of them actually look pretty cool. Here is one which has been converted to Black & White, some vignetting and some extra contrast.

Here is one from Annemiek and Else. I’ve made the lighting a bit softer. I like the somewhat unorthodox pose here.

Else’s sister (from my post yesterday) is Annemiek. The lighting setup is mostly the same as Else’s photograph; a softbox on camera right and a spot with grid on the left side.

Postprocessing was used to warm up the image. I often like it when a picture does not have too many color variants.

I haven’t many many shoots in my studio lately but last week I got a visit from two sisters. Here is Else’s profile. Two lights, a medium-sized softbox on the right, and a spot with grid on the left for the hair. Almost entirely desaturated for the near-black-and-white look.

The last one I’ll post in 2016. This is another one from Rachel. I’ve lifted the brightness around her eyes a little bit (hats are always detrimental to areas around the face), added a bit of clarity and provided the background with a Sean Archer-type of grungy texture.

2016 has been a good year, hopefully for you too, all the best for 2017! Less musicians dying hopefully, and more love to overcome frustration in the world.
