A duoshoot yesterday with two lovely girls, Cathelijne and Sharon. We didn’t have that much time but shot a couple of series. This one is a variation on Annemiek and Else from a few days ago. We actually shot this image in two forms, switching the girls. Perhaps to make it into a single photograph.

More from Annemiek, this time with some added contrast to make the lipstick pop a bit more. Hope you like it!

Here is a shot of a type that I don’t often post; this was taken during Sail 2015 in Amsterdam. It was late in the evening, and there was a beautiful half-clouded sky. Lots of boats were boating on the IJ that evening.

I took this picture and raised the white balance quite a bit in postprocessing (in Lightroom) to get a more overall yellowish look. Other than that, nothing much was changed.

The photo was entered into a competition of Sail photos (sailinbeeld.nl) and ended up as one of the final 9 photographs. It will be on display somewhere soon for some time at Delta Lloyd.

Another one from the shoot with Annemiek and Else, this time Annemiek in solo, wearing a hat and a dress that accentuates her figure.

This is a picture taken of Annemiek and Else, two sisters.

I used a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens for this on f/2.2, 1/2500s using Yongnuo YN-622C triggers (which deal with HSS or high-speed sync). A single large softbox lights the scene.

This is Else, the sister of Annemiek which you can also find on this website.

It was her first shoot, and within a couple of shoot her look was spot on. Combine that with a fancy hat and you get shots like this.

What is the magic of black & white and high contrast? The lack of color takes away part of the usual distractions to see form, something which you learn when you start drawing. In drawing, you really have to see the shadows (rather than see the light) and how it creates form. Recognize that and your drawings will be more real.

As for high contrast, perhaps it makes up for the lack of contrast that most screens have, compared to the large dynamic range that your eyes see when you look out into the real world.

This one was shot with a single light, in front of a light gray background, with a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens.

Another one from Chanelle. Only one light in front of a light gray background. It doesn’t need more than that really.

Another one from Chanelle, looking almost straight into a beauty dish, giving a somewhat theatrical look, like a ballerina about to go onstage.
