I like the lightness of this shot. Granted, this is one of the very few times where I have use negative vignette (meaning the edge have become brighter than the original) to make it even lighter.

Some might do their best to get rid of the heating pipes in the background, but I kind of like the natural look.

This is a shot I like from a recent shoot. The bokeh of the lens keeps the background a little softer (this was shot with a Sigma ART f/1.8 lens on a Canon 6D). For these types of shots I always prefer converting to black & white (I actually often like black & white better) since it becomes more timeless and the colors are not as distracting from the shape.

A Happy New Year to you all!

Here is a shot from last weekend at this girl’s home. I find it always nice & challenging to do shoots in such a confined space. It offers nice opportunities to create some shots that you would never make in a more sterile studio environment.

Lighting is an issue at these locations, but my Canon 6D still works admirably. And fortunately I like a bit of noise in my images.

My second post today, to catch up on things. I’ve been inspired to do some more shooting. Here are four shots of Melissa, a French girl living in the Netherlands. We met at her home, where I used a few new LED continuous lights to tweak lighting just a bit. Other than that most of it is natural light.

Here is an image I shot at the end of last summer. Today marked the ending of winter here in the Netherlands, where the sun was as nice to the skin today as it was back in autumn last year.

After some reading in the sun in the garden things got pretty chilly, so a nice excuse to go through some images and put one up here.

Although global warming isn’t a good thing, it’s nice to see the sun again; perhaps it will be as good a summer as it was last year.

Credits to beautiful Xenia for modeling & styling.

One of Xenia the other day. This was shot in her home, the hall on the left of the image letting in some extra light. At times like this though, you thank your camera (Canon 6D) for having such high settings for ISO that are actually worthwhile.

This photo of Xenia was made inside her kitchen. The lens was a Sigma 85/1.4 one, which gives nice bokeh. The kitchen was not terribly large, so I had to stand back as far as possible, but I like the 85mm a bit better than the 50mm (Canon 50/1.4).

I used only natural lighting. In a mostly white house this gives very nice soft lighting. The weather wasn’t too sunny, mostly clouds at the time of this shot really. In the Netherlands at this time of year the weather changes quickly all the time.

Yesterday I had a shoot with Xenia again, almost exactly a year after our previous shoot. This photo was taken in her home just in front of a southwest-facing window (to her back). Natural lighting only.

I did some postprocessing to make her face slightly brighter, to avoid too much contrast.

This photo was made about a year ago in Xenia’s home. It’s quite messy but that’s exactly what I liked for this B&W picture.
