Had a shoot last week with Daphne. Here’s one in black & white.

Kelly sitting in front of my wall. My studio really has 2 spots where I can take my pictures; a side where I have my paper backgrounds (where I mostly just use either black or white; white becomes gray if you take care of your lighting).

The other side is the wall (my Pinterest account has a special section dedicated to it). It’s white, has a corner and is perfect for sitting photos like this. I want to add some kind of boarded section though to create a real corner, that would give some more options.

I like the action here, something is happening, she’s putting on (or taking off?) her shoes. The slant is not subtle, but I like it this way.

This is Melanie again, staring melancholically into a beauty dish. Love the expression on her face.

This one is from some time ago with Belinda. The background is white paper, the sidelights two striplights. The inevitable wind machine for movement in the hair. I’m so glad I get to stay out of the cold jetstream, being the photographer. 😉

Here is on my favorites from a shoot some time ago. A couple (who remain anonymous) in a gentle embrace.

Here is another one from a month or so ago from Jessica. She’s very good when it comes to gentle smiles on-camera, a rare treat.

Another one from my shoot a few days ago with Melanie. This shot actually included the striplight on camera right, which I took out in Photoshop. I love the fine line of light in the face, and the look of Melanie.

This one is also from yesterday, with a white background (slightly lit by a striplight that was on the left) and a striplight to the right. The flow in her hair is from a windmachine, one of my favorite tools in the studio.

These days I only use my black and white paper backgrounds. Black can appear as fully black when using enough light on the model that doesn’t hit the paper. White can go from pure white to gray, like in this photo, which is nice and flexible. Many people don’t realize you don’t really need a gray background, and can just use white.

There’s a touch of vignetting added in Photoshop here (mostly on the top left), but a lot was already present in the original.

Years ago I ventured into the world of gobo’s; projecting through a metal plate to get some kind of shape projected. I only used it once or twice, but now I’ve discovered that it’s still great as a spotlight, instead of using a snoot.

Here’s a photo from a shoot tonight with just the gobo lens. Very hard light, but it works well with the shadow on the wall.

Single gobo light, used as a spotlight.

Here is a black and white variant of Sharon. The lighting consisted of a single strip light to camera right. The white wall gave some reflection which lit up her face a little.
